[Chile] Upgraded boxholing at El Teniente Two raiseboring systems from Atlas Copco are playing a key role in increasing production at the El Teniente copper mine, the world's largest underground operation. The Robbins 34RH and Robbins 53RH machines have been substantially upgraded from previous versions to provide fast and efficient raise boring in restricted spaces. They are used for upwards drilling of draw bell slot holes as well as for ventilation raises and ore passes between the production and haulage levels. The draw bell slots are approximately 15 m long and 0.7 m in diameter and a total length of 800 metres for around 45-50 slot holes are bored annually. The vertical or inclined ventilation raises are 25-50 m long and 1.5 m in diametre. A total length of around 1000 m are bored per year. El Teniente, which is one of six in the Codelco Group, Chile's biggest company, aims to increase its production from 95,000 to 126,000 tonnes per day by the end of 2005. |
